Where it all Started
I have been in the wedding and event planning industry for a good 20 years now. It all started when I was tasked to plan my relatives wedding all the way back in 1987. Since I was just out of college and didn’t have a full time job, my family decided that I was the best person for the job, so all the responsibilities suddenly fell onto my shoulders. Naturally, it was hard to do but to cut the story short, the end result was beautiful and I also learned quite a bit by my “baptism by fire”.

I learned that there are people who are very happy to overcharge you on anything that’s related to your wedding. It seems that just because a wedding is a special occasion, it gives people the right to overcharge for even the simplest of things (e.g. flower arrangements). Something as simple as flower arrangements can cost twice as much if you mention the word “wedding”. A few flower petals sprinkled on your guest’s dinner table can cost your as much a $100 a table. This is the level of cost disjointment between what you get and what you pay for.

I also learned that if you really think about it, there are so many things that you can do yourself that will lower the costs of your wedding substantially. Although it might take some time to do some of the arts and craft for your wedding it will be cheaper in the long run. There are also other benefits, namely it will make the wedding more memorable for you and your guests. You will be proud that you had such a large part to play in the development of your wedding.
